Mercedes Benz has revealed a concept electric vehicle that is said to be able to travel more than 620 miles before it needs to be charged. Should it come true and keep this promise, the Vision EQXX would extend the range of the Lucid Air Dream Edition by more than 100 miles and the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus around 220 miles.
“With the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX we envision the future of electric cars,” says Mercedes-Benz boss Ola Källenius.
Based on the automaker’s simulations, the Vision EQXX would use less than 10 kWh to drive 100 kilometers on public roads and deliver an efficiency of more than 10 kilometers per kWh. Converted to the consumption of fossil fuels, this corresponds, according to Mercedes, to the “golden number” of 1 liter of petrol per 100 kilometers.
The battery is half the size and 30 percent lighter than the one in the EQS. However, it still has a capacity of almost 100 kWh. In addition, there are ultra-thin solar panels on the roof that have a range of up to 25 km (15.5 miles).
The Vision EQXX is a light car (1,750 kg or 3,858 lbs) that has been aerodynamically optimized. The automaker says the EV, with a drag coefficient of 0.17, is more aerodynamic than a soccer ball (which has a drag coefficient of 0.18 to 0.2). In addition, Mercedes states that 95 percent of the battery energy is directed to the wheels.
Teams from the Mercedes research and development centers worked on the concept with its Formula 1 and Formula E engineers. They used digital tools to reduce waste and weight by eliminating excess material – the wheels are made of magnesium and the brake discs are made of an aluminum alloy. The Vision EQXX also uses recycled and plant-based materials.

As for the interior, the Vision EQXX’s infotainment system has a single 47.5-inch mini LED 8K screen. As Hyperscreen in the case of the EQS, it extends almost the entire width of the cabin, although it is a one-piece display. The car manufacturer worked with NAVIS Automotive Systems on a navigation system with zoom and scroll functions including satellite view. the Voice assistant “Hey Mercedes” is also integrated into the infotainment system.
Even if Mercedes does not bring the Vision EQXX to the stage, the development of the stylish concept has proven to be a valuable undertaking. It already integrates many of the functions and developments of the electric vehicle into production. Some will be used in the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz modular kit for compact and medium-sized cars.
