Why DotMD was sold out in two days

Last weekend, the famous DotMD medical meeting was sold out within two days. How did that happen and what does DotMD offer that no other meeting does?

  • experience. People are desperate for experience. And the future of meetings is about creating human experiences. Sound, senses and emotions. These define DotMD.
  • Like thoughts. In addition to the power of programming and a remarkable culture, DotMD attracts the most fascinating people in healthcare. DotMD attracts the people who prioritize human experiences, stories and feelings.
  • Scarcity. While we live in a world where size is a priority, some things are meant to be scarce, limited, and rare. What you find on DotMD is not scalable. More seats don’t make it any better.
  • Understand. The medical profession is desperate to understand how we re-ground ourselves. DotMD shows why we are active in medicine. It offers a solution that we can take with us and cultivate. For me, this meeting is crucial to help me accomplish my mission.
  • big picture. Medicine is increasingly defined by industrialized process pressure. Our patients are viewed as collections of proteins, genes, and markers (I had the privilege to speak about this at DotMD 2019). All of this neutralizes the texture of human travel. DotMD is an anti-reductionist. It owns the space where technology, art, digital culture, creativity, wellness, and human narrative collide for a broader view of the care experience.

Most importantly, DotMD sells out in two days because it delivers the unexpected.

Congratulations to Ronan Kavanagh, Muiris Houston and Alan Coss for what they have created.

Come on the list. And I hope to see you in Galway.
