Ford plans to triple production capacity for the all-electric Mustang Mach E by 2023

Ford plans to ramp up production of the all-electric Mustang Mach E next year, with the goal of triple its current capacity by 2023 to meet “incredible demand,” CEO Jim Farley tweeted late Friday.

This is the first time the automaker has given a specific outlook on the Mustang Mach E.

Ford announced in November that it would increase its electric vehicle production capacity to 600,000 units worldwide by 2023 – a goal that would be spread across the Mustang Mach E, F-150 Lightning, and commercial e-vans. If Ford hits that 600,000 number, it would double what was expected over the next two years.

Farley’s tweet reads, “It’s hard to get Mustang Mach Es out fast enough to meet incredible demand, but we’re definitely going to try. Starting in 2022, we will increase production and expect to reach more than 200,000 units per year for North America and Europe by 2023. That is three times our production in 2021. “

Ford confirmed to TechCrunch that it will be possible to increase the Mustang Mach E’s production capacity by building some vehicles at its Cuautitlan, Mexico, facility.

The tweet came the same day Automotive News reports Ford delayed the start of production of battery-electric versions of the Explorer and Lincoln Aviator crossovers by about 18 months, according to memos sent to suppliers and viewed by Automotive News. The EV versions of the Explorer and Aviator were to be assembled at his facility in Cuautitlan, Mexico.

Ford had previously announced that it would expect sales of around 50,000 Mustang Mach e-vehicles in North America and Europe for the first year of production (MY 2021). Ford sold 15,602 Do It in Europe by the end of the third quarter and 24,791 by the end of November in the USA, according to the company’s latest sales data. With 40,393 vehicles to date, the company is expected to reach its sales target of 50,000.
