LG Display’s latest transparent shelf OLED can display or expand works of art

Nothing screams Future technology like transparent OLED screens, and LG Display only has revealed his latest concepts and prototypes for CES 2022, The edge reported. All concepts were developed by LG Display (an independent sister company of LG Electronics) from 55-inch 1080p OLED panels with 40 percent transparency in the 8th generation manufacturing process.

The most visually appealing model is the OLED shelf, which consists of two transparent 55-inch OLED displays mounted on top of each other and crowned by a shelf. The idea is that, for example, you could have artwork on a screen and a description of the art below. It also has a layer of opaque material that rolls down like a screen to make the display more like a regular, opaque OLED. At the same time, with the screens turned off and the opaque material rolled up, you can see objects behind the screen like real paintings.

The other displays are more designed for signage and commercial customers. The Shopping Managing Showcase can be placed in front of physical products by adding graphics or effects like VFX smoke to enhance them. The storefront, on the other hand, can display decal-like graphics in front of clothing or other products to make a showcase more attractive. LG Display said that versions of the latter are already in a fashion store in Seoul and even in Smithsonian in Washington, DC

LG display does indicate a variety of curved displays including a continuous screen that wraps around a stationary bike and a curved media chair concept. The new transparent displays are just concepts and prototypes, but it told The Verge that it could help customers develop them into products and that the OLED shelf is ready for mass production.
