Hot on the heels of our October test drive With BMWs iXAt the CES 2022 in Las Vegas, the luxury car manufacturer presented a more powerful – but also electrified – performance edition of the EV flagship, the new 2023 iX M60. Building on more than 50 years of design development with the automaker’s prestigious M line, the iX M60 (together with the upcoming i4 M50) marks BMW’s first forays into powerful electric vehicles.

In addition to the sporty 610 horsepower, the all-wheel drive iX M60 offers 811 ft-lbs of torque, which translates to 0-60 in 3.6 seconds (not bad for a vehicle weighing 6,900 pounds), a top speed of 255 mph, translated. and an estimated range of 280 miles on standard 21-inch wheels. It’s dual Synchronous motors are energized, which means that their speed of rotation is based on the amount of electrical energy supplied – instead of relying on permanent magnets to create the magnetic field, the wheels turn. According to BMW, this improves both the overall power density and the peak performance of the vehicle, while at the same time eliminating the need for rare earth elements in engine design.
Its battery pack has a usable capacity of 106 kWh (111.5 kWh in total). A full charge (0-100 percent capacity) on an 11 W power plug takes about 10.5 hours (or a full 33 hours with 3.7 kW). Charging up to 80 percent on a DC quick charger takes 97 minutes at 50 kW, 40 minutes at 120 kW or just 35 minutes if you are lucky enough to find a charging station that is equipped with a 250 kW connection ( note that the M60’s 369V architecture limits its DC charging power to 195 kW, even if you’re lucky with an ultra-fast station).

Outwardly, the M60 is quite similar to the iX. It measures 195 x 77 x 65 inches and contains an aluminum space frame and a carbon cage with carbon fiber reinforced plastic in the roof, on the sides and at the rear. On closer inspection, however, you will notice M60-exclusive blue brake calipers and optional 22-inch rims. Of the eight exterior colors available, Titanium Bronze is only available for the M60, as are the optional Titanium Bronze wheels.

In the interior, M60 drivers have a choice of five color options for the seats (either with SensaTec material or perforated leather) as well as the regular functions, gadgets and ADAS systems that we expect from luxury vehicles. These include a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, a panoramic LED roof “Sky Lounge”, adaptive LED headlights and countless driver and traffic monitoring sensors, as well as something called BMW Natural Interaction, with which you can control the infotainment system with verbal commands and Hand movements.
Prices for the M60 will start at $ 106,095 when orders begin this June. BMW’s keynote is scheduled for Wednesday, January 5, at 11 a.m. PT.
