Dapper Labs is the first NFT company to register for lobbying with the US government

Vancouver-based Dapper Labs offers a variety of NFT-based products and dapps. These include Games like CryptoKitties, where players can breed and raise NFT kittens, and Cheeze Wizards, a series of tournaments where collectible characters can compete against each other. In addition, Dapper Labs is Partnership with the NBA and is responsible for Top Shot, an NFT marketplace that sells highlights of basketball games. The UFC has also partnered with Dapper Labs to offer a similar service in the near future.

According to the announcement, Dapper Labs has discontinued Crossroads Strategies as their lobbying firm. The company reported that it would advocate “Guidelines on NFTs, Blockchain and Financial Services”. Aside from hiring a lobbying firm, Dapper Labs also hired Alison Kutler as the new director of government affairs in November 2021, April 2017.

Kutler has since also signed up to lobby on behalf of Dapper Labs, as released the day after Dapper Labs officially registered on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Dapper Labs did not reveal much of its intentions, but did say that it wants to promote the “education and general adoption of Web3,” according to its spokeswoman Rachel Rogers.

As NFTs become more involved in mainstream culture, lobbyists are optimistic about future politics. Regardless, both lobbyists and politicians alike have to carry on Addressing the effects of blockchain technology about future regulations.

Through a public disclosure on January 3, 2022, Dapper Labs became the first NFT company to operate at the federal level to register Lobbying the US government. This is currently playing out as there are several names in the crypto industry step on the floors of Congress to explain the new technology and hopefully influence new guidelines.
