Reddit has “overhauled” their blocking feature so blocking actually works

Reddit is “Revision” its blocking feature, so blocking on Reddit works more like other social platforms. With the change, blocking a user on Reddit not only blocks that person’s posts from you, but also prevents them from seeing or interacting with your posts.

This may sound obvious, but until now, blocking on Reddit has been more of a “mute” feature as it only worked one way. That made the feature special ineffective for people engaged in harassment or other forms of abuse, as blocking did nothing to prevent the person from interacting with your posts.

Now when someone who has been blocked comes across that user’s posts or comments, the content will appear as if it had been deleted. Profiles are also inaccessible after a user has been banned. (An exception is moderators who will be able to do this View posts from users who have blocked them from appearing in the subreddit they moderate.)

On the other hand, Reddit is changing how blocked user content is displayed to people who initiated the blocking to better protect themselves from harassment. Now those who have blocked someone else can still see their posts, although the content is shown collapsed by default. Reddit says it keeps these posts accessible so users can continue to use the site’s reporting features and track potential harassment.
